COACHING SKILLS
David Ong plays a key role in supporting athlete development at the City of Manchester Wrestling Club and across the British Wrestling Performance Pathway. As the GBR Support Administrator, David provides essential administrative support for all elements of squad activity, including session planning, athlete monitoring, and competition preparation. His work behind the scenes ensures that athletes and coaches can focus fully on performance and progression.
A regular presence at the Academy since 2011, David trained under Oleg Druzhynets at City of Manchester Wrestling, developing a strong technical foundation and deep understanding of the sport. Following a shoulder injury that forced him to step away from competition, he transitioned into coaching in 2015, applying his experience and knowledge to support the next generation of wrestlers.
David is a qualified coach, having recently completed the United World Wrestling Level 2 Coaching Course and the ICCE Facilitators Course. As a club coach at City of Manchester Wrestling Club and a 🇬🇧 GB U17 Coach, he works closely with developing athletes, contributing to their technical, tactical, and long-term development. Alongside his coaching and administrative responsibilities, David brings dedication, organisation, and professionalism to every aspect of the club’s performance environment. Outside of wrestling, his interests include beekeeping and climbing, reflecting his commitment to discipline, patience, and continual learning.
